Good News and then the Bad News.

We are so happy to say that Broc will have a free Summer. He does not need vascular surgery this Summer. Today we went to visit all his friends and favorite Dr Eliason at Mott Children's Hospital.

It was a very early morning with a dear friend. We left around 3:30am. Thankfully there is not much traffic on the road at 3:30am.

We stopped along the way to grab some breakfast while Broc was sleeping. Its so much easier to eat when he is not around or sleeping.

Our first app was the scanogram to measure his leg length. We are pleased to say that his leg length discrepancy is down to 5mm. It was 9mm when he was measured in November last year. We fully expected his length to be 1cm or more but he surprised us all!!

Next we went off to the Imaging Dept to see how his graft is doing, to measure his ABI's and to do his vein mapping.

Our technician was so kind and gentle with Broc. Its very painful for him to have his graft looked at as the area around his groin is really sensitive. She was very kind in giving him a couple breaks to breathe through it. The Ipad helps too with the distraction.

We were so happy when Dr Eliason came in to give us the good news. Unfortunately with good news there is always the bad news that follows after. Once the vein mapping was done they found that Broc does not have any veins that can be harvested when he needs the surgery. All his veins are too small. When he needs the surgery the only option they have is to look for deep veins which come with a whole host of complications.

For now we are enjoying and celebrating the good news. Its not very often that we are given good news with Broc. Dr Eliason does want to see Broc every 6 months as we know how Broc likes to change things up and not follow course. There is a possibility that his left leg will continue to grow and the right one could slow down again or not grow at all. When this happens then we will have to visit the scary complications of a very difficult surgery.

Broc will be having an infusion tom and then surgery next week to change his GJ tube. Its a quick procedure so we will be back the same day.
