GI and ID update

The month we were away Broc was well except for a mild virus. Since we have been back we have seen GI and a new ID Dr.
GI.update:
Broc has had tummy pain since his last bout of c-diff in Oct. He is not able to eat big meals and sometimes not at all.GI has decided to d/c the Zantac in case the overload of reflux meds is causing the pain. If his reflux comes back then we have to go back to Zantac. We are also d/cing Periactin and going to trial Erythro. We have spoken to his cardio about cardiac side effects and he feels it is safe for Broc. Another concern for him is c-diff. We know that Brocs belly is very sensitive.
I.D. Update:
I.D. Dr was amazing. We spent over 2 hours with him. He also specializes in pulm so he was able to help us on that front too.
He changed his Q-var to symbacort to see if that will help with cutting down on his croup episodes. He also spoke about a swallow study in the future. His fevers are the most important issues that we are dealing with. He has ordered some gene testing for periodic fever syndromes which will help us eliminate some too. Since there are serious diseases on both my family and Marks family he is keeping a close eye on his fevers and is having us see a hematologist in the future too.
We have been given some things to try when he gets a high fever episode but he hasn't had one yet. He also wants blood work every 3 months to keep an eye on his numbers.
All in all I think we have a great team of specialists all under one roof and one hospital. Although the hospital is 30 mins instead of 10 min. I think it's worth it. The gene testing will take 6-8 weeks to come back. I will update when we have results.
Thank you everyone for your love and support.

Back to school and back to routine.

We an absolute awesome time in South Africa as I am sure you can see by all the pics that were taken.Lots of memories were made and of course lots of new friends for the boys too and mommy and daddy.

It was great catching up with old friends too and seeing how they are with their children. Soon we will all be together. The boys loved spending time with Granny and Grandad.Broc is up every morning asking for his boveril on toast that Grandad used to make him and Little Mark is wondering where the rusks are. Mommy has to hunt down a recipe for home made rusks like Granny has at her house.

They boys are still trying to play catch up with homework but they are doing well. I worked in Marks classroom yesterday and he gave a little speech about his shark tooth necklace.I almost call it the dreaded necklace as it took us forever to get him one. All the children were using their pencils that he gave them too. Thanks Mix for such a cool idea for them.

Our flight home was less than pleasant but that will be a post on its own. At least we made it home safe and sound.

Broc has been to see another I.D. Dr which has come up with a new approach to his infections that he gets.We are hoping this will help him considerably and that he will be missing much less school. If the approach works then we are certain what we are dealing with ,otherwise its back to the drawing board for them.We also have 2 other Drs thinking outside the box too.We are very eager to see if they come up with anything too.Broc will also be having some labs done on very rare periodic fever syndromes.

Our ultimate goal is to keep him as healthy as we can and not have him miss so much school. We would also like for him to have as "normal" as a life as he can with all his special needs.

A big thank you to my mom and dad and sisters who we stayed with and to all the friends and family that we enjoyed company with.As I said many memories were made and will never be forgotten.
We love you all.

This was a very special day for us as both our boys learned to swim by themselves with floaties (water wings) on.
Thank you Uncle Seagram and Aunty Cara for teaching us to swim. The afternoon was spent talking about old memories and making new ones.
